Nursing Resource Guide

This is the guide that you will be using for your Nursing courses here at SUNY Delhi. Here you will find information on specific courses, general information about searching for and using library resources.

Welcome To Nursing - How to Use This Guide

Hello!

This guide is meant to act as a comprehensive resource for students of the SUNY Delhi nursing program. The guide contains both general information on searching and using academic research materials as well as guides and instructions for individual courses and projects. Please use the menu on the left-hand side of the page to navigate.

IMPORTANT

If you do not see your specific class on the list it does not mean there is no information to assist you. Instead look at academic research and general search tips which both discuss everything you should need to know to complete research searches for your projects. If all else fails remember that you can contact the library directly for more assistance.

FAQ

Starting an academic project can be daunting, especially in a high-stress program like nursing. We encourage you to come to the librarians for assistance with research but advise that before you contact us you first attempt a few searches of your own. The most common question WE as librarians ask you as students is "Where have you looked so far?" Having a few examples of what didn't work will help us to provide you with faster and more targeted research assistance.

In this guide, we have added sections that cover some of our most frequently asked questions. Check here to see if you're questions are covered, if you still have questions or if anything is unclear there is an array of ways to contact us!

Some of our most frequently asked questions by students:

"I don't know where to start." -- Check out our General Search Tips

"I need an article with quantitative (and or) qualitative data." -- The best way to determine this is the read the METHODS section of an individual article in order to see what methodology was used by the writers. There are some ways to limit your search to get these results and you can find those here

"I need to find an article with evidence-based practice." -- Get help with this question here

"Can you help me with citations?" "How do I cite x kind of source?" The library provides guidelines for citation which can be found here. Further questions about citations, including, "Can you check and see if my citations are correct?" should be directed to Brent Olson at olsonbd@delhi.edu.

"My PICO question is XYZ how do I search for that?" -- For tips on searching specifically for PICO questions go here

Librarians are here to help!

There are several librarians here at the Resnick Library and we're all available to help you with questions! The librarians aren't the only support you have for your degree and this guide will also give you tips on who you should go to for which questions! Knowing who to ask will help save you time and frustration.

Librarians can assist with the following types of questions:

  • Reference and Research - these are questions about how to locate materials for assignments and learning. It could be something like "my topic is X and I don't know where to start?" or "I have been looking for hours and haven't been able to find anything". Librarians can help you to find the information that you need in an efficient way from the places your professors want. Academic sources, public health information, surveys - we know it all and if we don't we can learn together.  We're specially trained in information seeking.
  • Clarification on Types of Assignments - You've been assigned to write a research paper but you aren't sure what that means, contact us with your syllabus or assignment directions on hand and we can assist in clarifying.

Librarians cannot check your citations for you but we can tell you where you can locate guides to get or create citations for your research. For citation assistance please see the LibGuide section "APA Citation Help" or contact the Nursing Writing Tutor Brent Olson at olsonbd@delhi.edu.
