Faculty Resources

Guide for faculty to introduce library resources and provide examples of how library resources can be used in course guides.

Request a LibGuide

What's a LibGuide?

A LibGuide is a customized webpage created by a librarian to provide a centralized place for students to access resources for a particular assignment, course, or subject area. LibGuides are a great way to supplement the content you provide in your Online Delhi courses to support a research assignment, but the platform is very flexible and can be used in many different ways.

If you would like a LibGuide for your course or for a particular assignment, send your liaison Librarian an email. Because the platform is so flexible, the librarian working with you will need to know what you are hoping to see in your guide, and copies of assignment descriptions are usually helpful. The amount of time needed to create a guide varies widely, but generally we request a minimum of 2 weeks, although we will work with you to create a timeline and what you want to see on the page.

Take a look at some of the examples below - they differ depending on the needs of the course and/or instructor! You'll see some that cover all the assignments in a course, and others that provide general research support that applies to all assignments. Some are broken down in a way that reflects the research process for a particular assignment, while others reflect the great variety of choices students are sometimes given.

Request Library Instruction

Specialized instruction for classes can be requested from the Librarians. Library instruction is designed to introduce students to effective strategies for conducting research and using information sources, with a focus on using Delhi's print and electronic resources. Librarian's have found that the students respond best when there is a targeted and well-developed assignment attached to the session. Library orientation works best for courses such as UNIV100, or as a basic introduction prior to a second session with a research component.

Librarians are happy to collaborate with you on a format that will work for you and your students. We offer

  • Hands-on, interactive class session(s), targeted toward a specific assignment or objective
  • Library orientation via virtual escape room
  • Interactive, self-paced tutorials designed around the specific needs of your program, course, or assignment
  • Assistance with integrating library resources into your Online Delhi courses
  • Advice and collaboration on creating a project that incorporates research skills or library resources
  • Custom web-based research guides compiling the most useful resources and research tips for your subject area, course, or assignment (allow a minimum of two weeks to develop a new guide, or a minimum of one week for updates to existing pages)

To make the most of classroom time, the following requirements must be met when requesting library instruction:

  • Submit the request form a minimum of two weeks prior to the preferred date and time of the instruction session. This allows time for the class to be assigned to a librarian, for reserving a space, designing an appropriate lesson plan, and for preparing supporting materials as needed.
  • If you have an assignment for the session, it must be submitted with the instruction request
  • Faculty must attend the library instruction session with their students. Faculty participation dramatically enhances the student learning experience
  • Complete a separate request form for each course/section that you would like instruction
  • Bush 302 (the library classroom) can hold up to 25 students. If you have a larger class size, please include that information so that we can work with you to develop a plan for an alternate location or way to accommodate your class
