Pathophysiology (ALHT 300): APA Citations

Is to let the databases do them for you! CINAHL, MILO, and other databases will format the references for your References page. 

*Before scrolling down, read this!*

Database-generated references are not always 100% correct in their formatting. Double-check the following against your APA manual:

• • capitalization of article titles
• • DOI. Database-generated references may add ezproxy.delhi.edu somewhere in the DOI, and you will need to delete that part. 
    • ​Example: change  https://doi-org.ezproxy.delhi.edu/10.2105/AJPH.2020.305607​

• • If your article does not have a DOI, the database-generated reference will end with the volume, issue, and page numbers. For APA 7th edition, no further information is required in the reference.

Now, read on to see how to get one of these database-generated references.

In MILO, click on the article title or "Available Online" to access a more detailed view of the article. On this page, look for "Citation" under "Tools," click on it and select APA from the choices on the left. 

In this case, the article title capitalization also needs to be corrected, but the DOI is correct as-is. 

In CINAHL or other EBSCO databases, click on the title of the article in your list of results. Look on the right side of your screen for a list of "Tools" and click on the link that says "Cite"

If you've opened the PDF full text version of the article, you may only see the icon, which is a yellow piece of paper:

Either way, a box will appear with a list of citations in different styles. Simply copy and paste the reference for the appropriate style onto your References page, and correct any APA errors that may exist. 

In this example, you would need to correct the capitalization of the article title (only the first word and proper nouns like COVID-19 and United States should be capitalized) and remove "ezproxy.delhi.edu" from the DOI.
