Resnick Library Behavior Policy

Behavior in the Resnick Library (updated 7/2023)
Everyone has an equal right to access the library. The Resnick Library’s goal is to create a welcoming, secure, and relaxing place to learn and study. No one has the right to interfere with another person’s use of the library’s services or resources. Follow all posted guidelines of the library. The Resnick Library is open to those who are carrying out library-related activities; those using the space for non-library activities or acting in a way that disturbs other patrons will be asked to stop the behavior or leave the library.
These behaviors may include:
  • Any activity that violates College, local, state, or federal laws

  • Creating noise that is disruptive to other patrons

  • Smoking, including the use of electronic or vapor devices, inside the library or within 20 feet of the library entrance.

  • Harassment of any kind

  • Disruptive, obscene, or abusive voices, language, gestures, or activities

  • Bringing pets or animals, other than service animals, in to the library

  • Damaging or misusing library furniture, equipment, or materials

  • Audio, video, photographic, or any other recording of a library patron without their permission

  • Any activity which creates an unsafe or unwelcoming environment

  • Disobeying the direction of library staff

Persons who are behaving inappropriately will be given one warning to stop the behavior by staff or student assistant. Patrons who violate these guidelines may be asked to leave the library. Staff may ask for ID cards to identify patrons whose behavior continues to be non-compliant, and a campus report may be filed. Staff may also choose to call University Police to escort non-compliant patrons from the premises.

The campus Code of Conduct may be found online.
