Research Paper: Write about one aspect of Large Animal Industry

This could be a particular aspect of the different industries we discuss. You could focus on the purpose and production of the industry, a specific ethical concern (ie swine housing, feedlots, soring in show horses), whatever interests you. 

-APA format citations and references for any ideas that are not your own.

-A minimum of 5 sources should be used and cited in the paper.  The works cited page and any included images/charts/etc do not count towards the 4-5 pages of the paper, only the written content of the paper is included in the 4-5 page maximum. 

-At least 3 sources need to be PEER REVIEWED sources (more info below).

- An outline of your paper which should include a THESIS and your SOURCES is due on Friday, 10/23 at 5 pm on VANCKO HALL

  1. Contact the Writing Center (writingcenter@delhi.edu) to schedule an appointment to get started and for help with APA formatting .  This is HIGHLY recommended and you must schedule an appointment NOW as they book quickly.  It is also recommended to review the final draft of your paper with the Writing Center.

How do I do this?

The longer you take to prepare the better your paper will be to read the better your grade will be.

  1. You have a topic.  Search for resources to support the ideas of your paper, ideally, peer-reviewed articles on your topic.  This is your literature search and the library can help you with that.  Start researching peer-reviewed articles from journals to collect your references.  This will help you to solidify your ideas and REFINE your paper’s message.
  2. Collect more than 5 references/articles so you can sit down and sift through what would make the best message for your paper. Your articles should have some common theme to be able to write a coherent paper.

 

  1. Once you have your sources you can REFINE what your ideas will be or what message your paper will convey to me.

 

  1. Write it!  4-5 FULL PAGES. Use APA format for your references.

Peer Reviewed Sources are best:

  You should use peer-reviewed sources which are usually scientific journal articles.  Websites are not peer-reviewed and, therefore, would not be considered a proper source.   Start researching articles then your topic may become more obvious.  Please use the library or writing center to schedule a meeting with them to help you find these peer-reviewed sources.
