Progressive Writing Assignment Guidelines

Instructions

Writing Assignment 1 Students will write a proposal for their first writing assignment. The proposal will consist of an abstract (1-2 pages) describing the broad topic that they will be focusing on in their final paper and the importance of this topic. Double spaced, 12-point font, 1” margins.

Writing Assignment 2 Students will choose at least 5 references from peer-reviewed scholarly journals and list them in APA format and summarize each source. Each summary will answer the following questions:

  1. What are the main research questions addressed in the study?
  2. What is the sample for this study (e.g., gender, age, race/ethnicity, number of participants)? How was this sample recruited?
  3. What are the main research findings of the study?
  4. What are some implications of this study described by the authors?
  5. Can you think of any potential limitations of this study? Are there questions you think should be the next step in future research on this topic?

Writing Assignment 3 Students will write a short paper assignment (7-8 pages) worth 100 points based on the topic of their proposal and the five sources outlined in the proposal. In-text APA citations required. Title page and APA style-reference page required (7–8-page limit does not include either the title or the reference page). Double spaced, 12-point font, 1” margins, College level writing style and composition required (i.e., proofread, caps and punctuation correct).
