Scholarly Writing Do's and Don'ts

DO!
Use evidence! If you make a claim in your paper, make sure you use evidence from reliable sources to back it up.
Do use clear language. Don't rely on your thesaurus!

Use spell check and proofread your paper before you turn it in

 

DON'T
Don't say "don't!" Avoid using contractions (don't, didn't, isn't) in formal assignments.
Avoid "I." Avoid using the fist person pronoun in your academic writing.
Make generalizations or claims that are not supported by your souces
