Animal Behavior (Salerno, BIOL 115): Annotated Bibliography

What is an Annotated Bibliography?

An annotated bibliography is a list of resources related to your topic and why they're relevant to your research. For this assignment, you must include 5 empirical, peer-reviewed sources.

  • Empirical = information obtained through experimentation or observation
    • Look for sections labeled with "science fair" words - background, methods, data analysis, results, discussion
  • Peer-reviewed = has been looked over extensively by experts in the field.
    • Usually found in academic journals.
    • Not a lot of pictures, usually 5+ pages long, includes charts and graphs.
    • If you're using MILO, look for this icon:

For each source you will include:

  • Citation - Include the APA style citation for the article you've chosen. Refer to the Citation Resources section of this guide for help.
  • Abstract - This is typically the first section of the article and is usually labeled. Copy and paste this directly from the article into your assignment document (preferably .docx).
  • 2-3 Sentences - In your own words describe why this article is important to your research topic.
