Celebrate Your Right To Read!: Banned Books YOU can Read!

Celebrate your right to read during Banned Books Week 2022

Banned & Challenged Books

These frequently challenged or banned books are available from the Resnick Library. Please feel free to come in and check them out.

A variety of reasons are given for books being challenged in libraries or schools. Some of those most often cited on challenges received by ALA on their reports include: profanity, sexually explicit situations, LGBTQIA+ content, political viewpoint, witchcraft, graphic illustrations, anti-police, drugs/drinking, racist content, gender dysphoria, biased, transgender character, religious viewpoint, and influencing vulnerable young people.

Protecting each individual's right to information is one of the main tenets of the Library Bill of Rights. No person or group should have the power to decide for another (except a parent over their own children) what other's can and cannot have access to.

You can also check out the New York Public Library's Banned Books Reading List for additional books in a variety of age ranges. If you are a New York resident and do not have your NYPL library card, stop by the library and ask a librarian about how to get one.
